Application Form Guide
Turn in an application that gets their attention.

Job Applications

Employers use job applications to learn about your qualifications and to compare you to other qualifying employees.
Answer all of your questions honestly. Any false information can be the basis for dismissal. Avoid using any negative information. Here are some tips for completing an application form.
Follow the directions.
Avoid filling out your application incorrectly, so that you don't get rejected by that employer.
-
Read the entire application before filling it out.
-
Make sure you know what the question is asking and respond appropriately.
-
Only provide the information that will sell your qualifications.
Be neat and complete.
Make sure that your application creates a good impression by
answering all of the employer's questions.
-
Do not use any abbreviations, this implies that you are lazy.
-
Respond to every question asked. Even if the question
doesn't apply to you, answer with "Not Applicable".
If you are filling out a paper application:
-
Make a rough draft. Don't write on the original copy first,
write on a separate piece of paper. You could also print two
of that application and use one as a rough draft and the
other as your final.
-
Write clearly. Use a black, erasable pen, and use print
writing.
-
Proofread your application. Check for any grammatical or
spelling errors. Have someone review your application as
well. They might catch some errors that you missed.
-
Keep it neat. If you mess up, use some correction fluid to
cover up your minor error.
List your desired positions.
Do not leave this question blank.
-
If you are looking for a specific position, enter that title in the space provided.
-
If you aren't looking for a specific position, state the department in which you wish to work.
-
If you are interested in more than one job, fill out several applications.
Target your qualifications.
Many application forms have a limited amount of space for you to write your accomplishments and achievements.
-
Include only those that meet the specific needs of the company.
-
Attach a resume, so that the employer has a list of your qualifications.
